Travelers are getting a gift as they go across the Flint Hills for the holidays.
Gas prices have fallen from over $2.70 in October to around $2 a gallon Monday. Shawn Steward of Kansas AAA says gas prices typically go down in the winter, but the current drop is a bit unusual because of how significant it has been.
Locally, the price range is from $1.95 to $2.09 a gallon. Across the KVOE listening area, the price goes from $1.94 in Eskridge and White City to $2.14 in Osage City.
Across Kansas, the average of $1.99 a gallon is below the national average of $2.32. It’s also below last year’s state mark of $2.22 a gallon and last month’s figure of $2.29 a gallon.
Steward says the low gas prices are certainly welcome during the holidays, with over 110 million Americans poised to travel between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
