Sedgwick County’s fire department first district has an interim leader.
Doug Williams, the district’s division chief of operations and the Eureka Volunteer Fire Department chief, is taking over for retiring chief Tavis Leake on Monday. KVOE’s television partner KWCH in Wichita says Williams’s career began in 1988 and he has been in his current position the last several years.
Williams says he is a candidate for the permanent position. He says he will still serve as Eureka’s fire chief for the time being.
The district serves cities including Bel Aire, Goddard, Haysville, Kechi and Park City. Is also serves around 630 square miles of rural Sedgwick County.
