Winter break is officially upon us, and so is the season of traveling, and for foreign travels, passports will be needed.
The Register of Deeds office in the Lyon County Courthouse is now offering a local option for applying for passports. Passports are required for every American citizen who is traveling outside of the U.S. Wendy Weiss of the Register of Deeds office, previews the application process.
Weiss says the process can take anywhere from four to six weeks. An expedited service is offered for an additional $60 that will bring the timeline down to three weeks.
The fees vary with age, choice of passport book or card, and other optional fees. The estimated price for a passport book for an adult is $150.
Passport books and cards vary in their differences. The book will allow for all international travel, but the card will only allow for travel to the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean nations.
Walk-ins are accepted at the Register of Deeds office, and operation times are from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm on Monday through Friday. For more information on all things passports, call the Register of Deeds office at (620) 341-3240.
