More details have come to light after a car fire that also damaged a house in Emporia last weekend.
Emporia Fire says a renter at 1106 Congress was driving in Emporia and developed some sort of electrical issue in the engine compartment Saturday evening. That person made it home and ran inside for some water to put out the fire, but by the time he got the water the fire had already gotten out of control — thanks to leaves under the car and near the house.
Thankfully, there were no injuries. The vehicle was destroyed and the house suffered around $10,000 in fire and smoke damage, mainly to the outside of the home and the eaves.
The renter’s name has not been released. The house is owned by Will Symmonds.
