A portion of Road F is now closed after approval by Lyon County Commissioners Thursday.
Wednesday, commissioners held a special study session during which they traveled to Road F to survey areas under consideration for closure. Commissioners focused on one section of the Road located between Roads 160 and 170.
The section of road was designed in 1868 and currently sits in the middle of a river. The definition of a road by Kansas statute states it must have access to public use. Due to its location, the indicated portion of road does not meet this requirement.
Currently, the road creates an issue of liability risk for both the landowners as well as Lyon County. Commissioners unanimously approved the closure of the portion of Road F.
Also during the meeting, Bruce Boettcher of BG Consultants presented commissioners with pay estimates for the ongoing work in Rural Water District #1. The estimates included $71,965.62 for Goins Enterprises for water line work in Americus.
As of Tuesday, the water lines are now 100 percent installed with only two connections, three service lines and one disconnection remaining. A progress meeting was held on Dec. 12 where contractors stated they anticipate all work to be fully completed by the end of this week with yard cleanup taking place simultaneously.
The second pay estimate was for Phoenix Fabricators in the amount of $20,995 for work on the new water tower in Bushong. Electrical work was completed on the tower on Nov. 28 and piping and site work are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Contractors are anticipating completion of site work, controls and disinfection by mid-January. The estimated completion date of construction is Feb. 1, 2019.
Both estimates were approved 3-0.
In other business, commissioners also approved the low bid received from Harshman Construction, L.L.C. for CM-K cover material from their Paxson Quarry for the County’s 2019 sealing project for $52,425. Commissioners also discussed a request from USD 252 to grade the gravel areas and remove snow from roads on the North and East areas of Olpe schools.
Six executive sessions also took place.
The Lyon County Commission will next meet on Thursday, Dec. 27 at 8 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse.
