The Emporia High boys defeated Highland Park 72-49. Highland Park won the girls game 46-41.
The Spartans led 13-10 after the first 8 minutes, 28-20 at halftime 47-31 going to the 4th quarter and blew the game wide open in the 4th quarter leading by 27 points at one time. Coach Beau Welch was more impressed with the 2nd half.
Charles Snyder led the Spartan offense with 19 points, Jace Stewart added 13 and Spencer Stewart 10 points. The Emporia High boys are now 5-1 for the season and will close out the pre-christmas at Topeka High Thursday night.
The Emporia High girls were out scored 46-41 by Highland Park. The Lady Spartans scored the first 9 points of the game. They Trailed at halftime 20-19. The Lady Spartans took a 35-34 lead into the 4th quarter. They would trail by 6 during the final 8 minutes and could never recover. Coach Carolyn Dorsey called it a disappointing loss.
Rayanna Breshears was the lead scorer for Emporia High with 9 points. The Emporia High girls are now 2-4 for the season. They will play their final game before the Christmas break Thursday at Topeka High.
