A student-led toy drive will help put toys under the tree for area children this Christmas.
The Emporia High School Student Council have organized a special toy drive which will begin Tuesday. The drive will start at Emporia High School with boxes throughout the building for students to donate.
The drive will continue through the Emporia High School basketball game against Highland Park Tuesday evening. Fans are asked to bring new toys to the game and will receive $1 off admission for their donation.
All donations will be going to SOS to provide toys for children in need. Student Council member Courtney Richardson says it is a great feeling to know they are making a difference in children’s lives.
Student Council sponsor and EHS teacher Laura Schwinn says the importance of community service is something EHS stresses to their students.
In addition to the toy drive, a 50-50 raffle will also be taking place. All proceeds from the raffle will also go to benefit the drive.
Organizers ask that all donations be new unwrapped toys.
Any residents wishing to donate who may not be able to attend the basketball game may deliver donations to the Emporia High School front office. The drive will run through the end of the week when donations will be collected and delivered to SOS.
