Trial is underway for an Emporia man on one of two related criminal cases.
Abel Ortiz faces charges of drug distribution stemming from alleged activity in October 2017. Ortiz was originally set for two trials to begin Monday, including one for separate but related charges of aggravated failure to appear, drug possession and interference of law enforcement. Word on a trial date for the failure to appear case is pending.
Two other notable cases working their way through Lyon County District Court were supposed to begin Monday but have since been pushed to next month.
Jacob Rodriguez is going to trial on charges including drug distribution within 1,000 feet of a school. He’s one of five defendants in a case that came to light in September.
Separately, Taylor Rich faces charges of aggravated burglary, burglary and interference with law enforcement. Her charges follow an alleged incident just east of Emporia on or around Sept. 15.
Both the Rodriguez and Rich trial settings have been moved to Jan. 7.
