Emporia Police investigators say one person was apparently shot during an incident in central Emporia on Sunday night.
Emporia Police responded to a medical call with traumatic injuries around 9 pm. Capt. Dave DeVries has confirmed a shooting was reported in the 800 block of Sylvan around that time. One person, a 39-year-old male, was found on the curb with an apparent gunshot wound. Emporia rescue workers took that person to Newman Regional Health for treatment. The patient’s name has not been released.
DeVries says this is an active investigation. No suspects are in custody at this time and there is currently no suspect information available.

Emporia firefighters say they took one person to Newman Regional Health for treatment after an incident in the 800 block of Sylvan at about the same time as the medical call, but neither firefighters nor officers are currently connecting the two incidents. The patient’s medical status is currently unclear.
Police Sgt. Lisa Sage says officers are also investigating a separate shots fired call from Saturday evening. The address or area of town involved has not been announced. There is no word on suspect information or whether anybody was injured.
