Over two dozen wind energy companies, including one already established in the KVOE listening area and two others nearing the end of a wind farm pre-construction phase, have announced a new wildlife-related research fund.
The Wind Wildlife Research Fund will now be a part of the American Wind Wildlife Institute. A news release says the Wind Wildlife Institute is an independent nonprofit organization created to better understand the risks of wind energy to wildlife and create solutions to minimize that risk.
The new research fund was announced at the national Wind Wildlife Research Meeting recently in Minnesota.
Wind organizations included in this effort include Southern Power and RES Americas, who are now partners in the Reading Wind Energy development awaiting construction in Lyon and Osage counties, and EDP Renewables, the company operating Waverly Wind Farm in northern Coffey County.
