Visitors to Flint Hills Trail State Park won’t have to buy access permits starting New Year’s Day.
This follows action by the Kansas Wildlife, Parks and Tourism Commission last month to repeal the regulation mandating trail access permits.
The goal is to increase interest in both the Flint Hills Trail State Park, the state’s longest trail in Kansas at 117 miles and connects area towns like Osage City, Miller, Admire, Allen, Bushong and Council Grove, and the 50-mile Prairie Spirit Trail State Park, which runs from Ottawa to Iola.
The Flint Hills Trail State Park was approved by lawmakers earlier this spring.
