Some details have surfaced as to the cause of a damaging vehicle-house fire Saturday.
Emporia fire crews are still investigating after a vehicle fire spread to a nearby house. Firefighters were called out to 1106 Congress shortly before 6 pm. The initial call was for a vehicle fire, but the vehicle was parked about five feet from the house — and it didn’t take long after the first call before the fire had spread to the home.
According to a press release, the initial flames from the vehicle spread to several nearby fallen leaves. This led to the fire eventually spreading the home.
Details on the extent of damage to the home have not been released. The cause of the vehicle fire is still under investigation.
The Emporia Fire Department reminds everyone of the importance of routine vehicle care, and the importance of keeping fallen leaves and other dry combustible items away from the home.
Americus and Olpe firefighters were toned out as mutual aid but were quickly canceled.
