A teenager left at a highway rest stop in Greenwood County about three weeks ago now has enough donations to have a comfortable Christmas.
The Kansas Department for Children and Families has told KVOE’s television partner KWCH in Wichita no more donations are needed for the juvenile, saying all the boy’s needs have been met “due to the tremendous amount of donations he has received.”
The drive was announced Wednesday to make sure the teenager had clothing, bedding, posters and movies.
DCF says you can help other children state care by donating gift cards to Hope for the Holidays, a non-profit aimed at helping foster children have the things they want or need during the Christmas season. Click here for information.
The nonverbal autistic teenager was found at the US Highway 400 rest area near Beaumont on Nov. 29 without money, food or medication. Authorities believe he was left at the rest area the day before.
Meanwhile, word on formal charges in Kansas is still pending after the teen’s grandmother, 69-year-old Janie Gill, was arrested Monday in Oklahoma. If extradited as expected, she could face charges of child endangerment and interference with law enforcement.
