Recently, Kansas Senator Jerry Moran joined fellow lawmakers in calling for an investigation into allegations of unpaid benefits for military veterans. Now the senator is joining lawmakers in introducing a bill to correct Veterans Affairs payments in question.
Moran, a member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction, Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies, has signed on to introduce the “Forever GI Bill Housing Payment Fulfillment Act.”
Moran says the bill was introduced after “the VA’s failure to fully comply with reimbursement rates set by the Forever GI Bill.” Lawmakers say improperly updated IT systems resulted in improper payments to veterans, and lawmakers also chided the VA for not having the internal processes in place to get necessary information about payment rates to veterans.
If passed, the bill would direct the VA to end improper payments as soon as possible, establish a team of specialists who will develop a corrective action plan for Congress, report to Congress on the impact of the VA’s errors and certify the VA is fully compliant with the law.
