The Emporia High basketball teams were swept by Washburn Rural Tuesday night. Rural won the girls game 58-44 and the boys game 67-52.
In the girls game Rural used an 11-0 run in the 2nd half to take control of the game after the Lady Spartans cut the deficit to 8. Coach Carolyn Dorsey said there was some improvement.
Emporia High was led by Taylor Milleson with 11 points. The Lady Spartans are now 1-3 for the season and 0-1 in Centennial League play.
In the boys game Washburn Rural used a 9-0 run in the 4th quarter to help seal a 67-52 win over Emporia High. The Spartans struggled offensively making 3 of 15 three point shots and were 11-22 from the freethrow line. Coach Beau Welch says that has to improve.
Charles Snyder led the Spartans in scoring with 16 points. The Emporia High boys are now 3-1 for the season and 0-1 in league play.
Both the Emporia High girls and boys play at Topeka West Friday night.
