Three local organizations teamed up to bring a new holiday-themed educational event for families this weekend.
“There’s Snow Place Like Home,” a fun play on words from the classic Wizard Oz, was held Saturday at the Lyon County History Center. The event was a collaboration between Parents as Teachers, which just came to Emporia in August, along with Cradle to Career Literacy Center and of course the Lyon County History Center.
The event included holiday-themed educational activities for young children including a sensory table, make-it-and-take-it crafts and a holiday story time.
Denise Dorcey with Parents as Teachers says while the event mainly catered to children, there were many benefits to parents as well.
Along with the host of activities families and children could also view the history center’s model train exhibit which was up and running throughout the day.
Dorcey adds she is hoping the event will become an annual event in years to come.
Approximately 80 families attended Saturday’s event.
