An annual holiday tradition in Emporia will be continuing this weekend for the 35th year.
It’s time once again for the annual Delane Drive Santa Toy Drop which will be taking place Saturday evening. The holiday event sees residents drop of donations of toy and money to provide children in need with new gifts for the holidays.
Organizer Clark Allemang says the toy drop is an event embraced by the entire neighborhood each year.
Donations typically include footballs, stuffed animals, action figures and new bikes. In fact, for the past several years one local resident made an annual contribution of new bikes to the toy drop after receiving one himself from the event as a child.
Sadly that individual passed away earlier this year, however, Allemang tells KVOE News his wife will be continuing that tradition in his memory.
Along with the toys, which will go to the Salvation Army, monetary donations to benefit SOS are also accepted. According to Allemang last year the event collected 12 bikes, 20 bags of new toys and over $400 in monetary donations.
The neighborhood will also receive a hand in collecting donations as Santa Claus himself, along with Mrs. Claus and a few helpers, will once again assist with collecting donations.
The toy drop will begin on Delane Drive Saturday evening at 6 p.m. and run until 10 p.m.
