The Emporia State men held on for a 60-56 win over Nebraska Kearney Thursday to open MIAA play.
The Hornets made 5 of 6 free throws in the final 33 seconds to seal the win. There were 5 ties and 5 lead changes in the game. The game was tied at 55 with 1:21 to play before the Hornets closed out the game with a 5-1 run. Hornet Coach Craig Doty said they found a way to win the game.
Justin Washington led the Hornets with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Malik Hluchoweckyj and Kooper Glick both added 11 points. With the win the Hornets improved to 5-2 for the season and 1-0 in MIAA play. They continue the road trip Saturday at Fort Hays State.
