For the 2nd game in a row Tyra Jones finished with a double-double, scoring a season high 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Emporia State women to a 72-64 win over Nebraska Kearney Thursday night.
The Lady Hornets led 11-3 before Kearney went on a 15-2 run to take a 18-13 lead after the 1st quarter. Emporia State trailed by 8 in the 2nd quarter before closing out the half on a run to take a 32-25 lead at halftime. The Lady Hornets out scored Kearney 23-19 in the 4th quarter to seal the win. Lady Hornet Coach Toby Wynn said they turned up the defensive pressure in the 2nd quarter.
Emily Miller added 17 points, hitting 5 three point shots.
Jessica Wayne and Addie Lackey added 10 points each. The Lady Hornets scored 18 points off of 14 Kearney turnovers to help pick up the road win. The Emporia State women are now 7-1 for the season and 1-0 in the MIAA. They play at Fort Hays State Saturday with tipoff at 2pm.
