From blizzard warnings to severe thunderstorm warnings in the space of a week.
Welcome to the Flint Hills in late November and early December.
Northern Greenwood County residents, including those in Madison, Hamilton and Virgil, were under a severe thunderstorm warning briefly for the risk of large hail and high winds. No severe weather has been reported so far.
Elsewhere, heavy rain was a calling card of showers and storms that hit the area in waves Friday night and early Saturday. Area totals:
*KVOE studios: 1 inch
*Emporia Municipal Airport: 0.77 inches
Those storms also brought pea-sized hail to southern Lyon County Friday night and to central Emporia Saturday morning.
With the risk of severe weather now behind us, the forecast reverts to more wintry conditions. A rain-snow mix is possible Saturday night into Sunday, with a drizzle-snow mix possible at times Sunday and light snow possible Monday. Little to no accumulation is expected, but travel could be an issue at times Sunday and Monday.

8:30-10 pm Friday: Isolated strong storm activity underway
Isolated severe thunderstorms are affecting the KVOE listening area Friday night.
Borderline severe hail of 1-inch in diameter and winds as high as 58 mph are possible with storms that develop through early Saturday morning.

3:45 pm Friday: Low-end severe weather risk to close out November
Come midnight, the calendar will read December — but apparently Old Man Winter wants a bit of a break.
After three episodes of light to moderate snow, including a blizzard Sunday, the Friday night forecast calls for a marginal risk of severe thunderstorm activity across Lyon and surrounding counties.
Storms could affect the KVOE listening area by mid-evening. Most activity will be below severe limits, although an isolated storm could have hail up to the size of quarters.
Once the thunderstorms clear the area, there is a decent chance of rain Saturday morning. Wintry weather returns to the forecast picture with a rain-snow mix possible Saturday night through Sunday night and light snow possible Monday.
