The Emporia-Lyon County Metropolitan Area Planning Commision zipped through most of its monthly agenda for its meeting Tuesday night.
One night after Emporia city commissioners approved an incentive compliance agreement to bolster the Preston Plaza and Lofts and the Citizens National Bank Plaza and Lofts project in the 10 block of West Sixth, the Planning Commission unanimously approved a conditional use permit for the Preston project. The special permit will allow residential living units on the ground floor of a C-4 Central Business District-zoned property.
The board also approved a request from the Wayne Proehl Family Trust for a minor plat at 1863 Road G for the purpose of a four-lot subdivision, as well as a request from SOS to get a conditional use permit for a safe house shelter.
The board, however, denied a request from Old Crow Properties to rezone 1221 West Seventh from R-1 Single-Family Dwelling and C-3 General Commercial to R-3 Multi-Family Dwelling space. The vote followed opposition from nearby residents about traffic and concerns from board members about possible spot zoning.
