Emporia State formally accepted the Corsicana Bowl’s invitation to play in the Dec. 1 bowl game during festivities before and during the men’s basketball game Monday night.
Bowl Executive Director Tony Taulton says ESU was a good choice for the postseason game because of their record — and because of the athletic department’s preparedness beforehand, with Media Relations Director Don Weast having everything ready as if the invitation was already offered. Taulton expecting a close contest between the Hornets and Arkansas-Monticello.
Head Coach Garin Higgins credited his players and coaches for reaching the postseason.
ESU President Allison Garrett commended the team, especially the seniors.
The game is in Corsicana, Texas. It’s the fifth time in the last seven season Emporia State has reached the postseason. The Hornets won their last bowl appearance, a 45-38 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville in the 2012 Kanza Bowl.
