Railroad crossings at several east Emporia streets have been closed for weeks, and there is no indication on when they will reopen.
The city of Emporia announced Burlington Northern Santa Fe would close the crossings at East and Peyton for repairs back in late August. The crossing at Cottonwood has also been closed.
KVOE News has reached out to Burlington Northern Santa Fe for an update, including the nature of the work and the projected timetable for completion. So far, there has been no response from the railroad. City staffers also say they have not been updated on the progress of the crossing repairs.
