The Kansas Turnpike Authority has completed several planned projects along the highway near Emporia, and it expects several more projects will finish out by the end of the calendar year.
The Turnpike Authority says it has completed construction on 10 northbound bridges just north of Emporia as part of a two-year project. It has also finished a pavement resurfacing project near the Matfield Green service exit, including portions of the service area itself and ramp improvements.
Weather permitting, the Turnpike Authority also plans to finish increasing the vertical clearance of 11 bridges in Lyon, Wabaunsee and Osage counties before New Year’s Eve. It also plans to finish resurfacing the highway from just north of the Emporia service exit to mile marker 165 in Osage County. Included in that project list is resurfacing the Admire-Council Grove interchange.
Most of these projects are part of the Turnpike Authority’s Long-Term Needs Study to preserve and modernize the highway over the next seven years. The KTA has spent almost $190 million on various improvements since early 2016. Click here for more information on KTA construction projects.
