The 27th annual KVOE National Teacher’s Hall of Fame Radio Auction was a success yet again Thursday evening.
This year’s auction had 94 items up for bid and raised over $14,300, all of which will go towards assisting with the annual induction activities in June. Proceeds help provide lodging and airfare for upcoming inductees and helps bring family members of teachers and staff killed in the line of duty to Emporia for the annual rededication ceremony for the National Memorial to Fallen Educators.
NTHF Director Carol Strickland says their goal each year is to treat inductees and their families like royalty, which would not be possible without funds generated by the auction and community support.
As has been the case for the past 10 years, the event was located at the Emporia State Federal Credit Union’s Industrial Road branch. Credit Union General Manager Angie Miller says hosting the event is extra special as the auction was the very first event to take place at their building.
KVOE General Manager Ron Thomas says the auction is an opportunity to say thank you to teachers across the nation.
Before the bidding got underway, the Emporia State Federal Credit Union made two check presentations to the NTHF. The first check was from ESFCU staff members in the amount of $244 and the second was from the Credit Union itself totaling $2,500.
As of the 2018 induction class this past June, 135 teachers have been inducted in the National Teacher’s Hall of Fame since 1992.
