Four area schools will see their children get a good start every school day, thanks to grants through the Kansas State Department of Education to bolster breakfast programs.
Area grant amounts include:
*Council Grove High School: $4,180
*Hartford Junior-Senior High School: $1,455
*Lyndon Elementary and Middle School: $2,800
*Olpe Junior-Senior High School: $1,455
Grants totaling over $140,000 will support what are called innovative breakfast delivery models, sometimes called breakfast after the bell, so breakfasts can be served in non-traditional ways like in classrooms. Second-chance breakfasts and grab-and-go breakfast plans will also be funded through the money, which is coming from Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign and the Midwest Dairy Council.
KSDE says these nontraditional breakfast offerings can give students “the fuel they need to learn, grow and thrive.”
