The fifth annual Emporia Community Foundation Match Day took place Monday.
This year, over 20 community groups and organizations from Lyon, Chase, Greenwood and Osage counties were at Flinthills Mall to discuss their respective missions and the projects they hope to have funded through Match Day. For the first time, residents could also donate online through www.emporiamatchday.com. Board of Trustees chair Kay Lauer says the online option became a big asset with dicey travel conditions in place areawide for much of the morning.
Last year’s event generated over $210,000 for the participating agencies, and Lauer says she’s confident fundraising will pass that mark when the final total is announced later this month.
The final total will be announced during the Match Day check presentation Nov. 27 at Flinthills Mall.
1:30 pm Monday: Match Day benefiting 25 agencies in four counties
The fifth annual Emporia Community Foundation Match Day continues at Flinthills Mall.
Last year’s event generated over $210,000 for the participating agencies. Community Foundation Director Becky Jeppesen says Match Day has now become a pivotal fundraiser for most of the groups involved.
Jeppesen says Match Day now has an established history of financial support for the community partners involved, which is impressive due to the area population.
This year, over 20 community groups and organizations from Lyon, Chase, Greenwood and Osage counties are at Flinthills Mall through 7 pm. Residents have a chance to donate at the mall and send their financial gifts to as many different participating agencies as they like. For the first time, residents can also donate online at www.emporiamatchday.com through midnight. All donations will then be matched through a pool of $50,000 provided by the Clint Bowyer 79 Fund, Hopkins Foundation, Reeble Foundation, Trusler Foundation and Jones Testamentary Trust.
