Come New Year’s Day 2020, the name Lyon-Coffey Electric Cooperative will disappear — although the company is not going anywhere.
Lyon-Coffey members overwhelmingly approved a consolidation with Radiant Electric Cooperative on Monday. Ninety-three percent of Lyon-Coffey members and 94 percent of Radiant members approved the consolidation, well above the two-thirds majority needed for approval.
Consolidation now will officially take place Jan. 1, 2020, as the companies combine under a new name, 4Rivers Electric Cooperative. The current plan is to keep the status quo in several ways for members, like keeping the workforce stable at nearly 50; continuing to keep business offices open in Emporia, Lebo and Fredonia; and maintaining current service levels for the new customer base of 13,000 people in 14 counties.
