Exhausted but exhilarated.
That pretty well describes the nearly 60 people who were part of the USD 252 Southern Lyon County Honor Flight that returned home from our nation’s capital Tuesday night.
Students and veterans say they thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Tessa Beeman, a senior at Olpe High, was actually on her second trip, having gone as a junior as well.
Trenton Schroeder is a sophomore at Hartford. He says he enjoyed his time with the veterans on the trip.
John Hayes was in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. He says the trip was “way more” than he expected.
Conrad “Bud” Southard was a Marine during Korea. After helping to raise money for prior Honor Flights, he now wholeheartedly recommends the tour to other veterans now that he has taken the trip.
Honor Flight pairs high school students with veterans and takes them on a whirlwind tour of Washington, D.C. This trip involved 24 veterans, 22 students and 10 support staff.
Plans are already underway for a spring trip next year. For more information, call 620-392-5519 or go online to www.usd252.org.
