Progress is being made on conversations regarding the potential future improvements for the Lee Beran Recreation Center.
That was the message from Rec Commission Director Tom McEvoy on a recent edition of KVOE’s Newsmaker. Recently architects from Gould Evans have been conducting focus groups in the community to gain an idea of the most pressing needs for the renovation.
McEvoy says the biggest focus currently is providing a facility for all ages to utilize.
Talks on renovations began earlier this year after Rec Center staff began to see an increasing number of issues. One among them was the issue of space and deterioration of the facility over time. as McEvoy explains the original designer of the Rec Center Trevor Lewis mentioned to him in year’s past “this place was never designed for this many people.”
The next step in the process will be a meeting of the Recommendation Committee to discuss their options and the topic of funding. No official date for said meeting has been set, however, it is expected to happen within the next two weeks.
McEvoy adds, the process will not be a quick and simple one, and it may take years before a formal decision is made and groundbreaking on renovations would even take place.
