A woman who recently pleaded no contest to a conspiracy count of bringing contraband into the Lyon County Jail has now lost an appeal for drug activity in another case.
Angela Peres was originally charged with trafficking contraband in a correctional facility and methamphetamine possession in December 2016. As court proceedings continued, Peres pleaded no contest to the drug possession count with prosecutors dropping the trafficking charge.
Prosecutors say Peres violated her probation terms several times from August 2017 to this past January, requiring several jail or prison sanctions before probation was eventually revoked. Peres appealed, saying she should have been given another chance at drug treatment and district court abused its discretion by revoking probation.
A Court of Appeals panel sided with district court, saying it had authority to revoke the probation and Peres continued to use drugs despite several opportunities for treatment.
Peres pleaded no contest in early October to the conspiracy count after allegedly bringing a small amount of methamphetamine into the jail and then distributing that to fellow inmates in February. Sentencing will be Nov. 28.
