The number 1 ranked Kansas Jayhawks used a 13-0 run in the first 7 minutes and never looked back on the way to a 93-55 win over the Emporia State mens basketball team Thursday night.
Emporia State Coach Craig Doty found several encouraging signs.
Emporia State took a 3-2 lead on a 3 pointer by Sawyer Glick and that would be the only lead of the night for the Hornets. Kansas used a 13-0 run to take a 15-3 lead and then went on a 11-3 run to take a 26-6 lead. KUs Dedric Lawson scored the Jayhawks first 10 points, he finished with a game high 31 points and 15 rebounds. Quentin Grimes was the only other Jayhawk to score in double figures finishing with 10 points. Emporia State used a 5-0 run to start the second half to cut the deficit to 18 points but that as close as they would get. Hassan Thomas led Emporia State in scoring with 17 points. Sawyer Glick added 14 points. Justin Washington was the leading rebounder with 10 for the Hornets.
Emporia State opens the season November 9th at Southwest Minnesota State. Kansas hosts Washburn in an exhibition game next Thursday. They open the season November 6th against Michigan State.
