A Fredonia man arrested in Greenwood County in late January has now been sentenced for trying to buy a pre-teenaged girl for sex.
Ernest Merle Anziana, 49, was arrested Jan. 30 — ironically, at the end of Human Trafficking Awareness Month. He was originally charged in Greenwood County, but he was extradited to Kentucky for court proceedings. Authorities said Anziana tried to buy an underage girl using $500 and seven grams of meth for the purchase.
A Kentucky jury convicted Anziana of five counts of unlawful use of electronic means to induce a minor to engage in sexual activities and one count of promoting human trafficking.
Anziana was sentenced to five years in prison. He has to register as a lifetime sex offender and he has to complete a treatment program after his prison sentence. He also faces a count of soliciting human trafficking in Greenwood County as well.
Kentucky authorities say Anziana was captured as part of an investigation by the state Attorney General’s Office Cyber Crimes Branch.
The Kansas Department of Corrections says Anziana was convicted for three counts of aggravated incest in 1988. He was discharged in 2008.
