Elections officials across Kansas are warning voters to watch for text messages that may indicate their advance votes for next month’s general election didn’t count.
The text ostensibly comes from President Donald Trump and says, “Your early vote has NOT been RECORDED on Kansas’ roster. I need you to vote GOP.” The message then directs the recipient to an online link to allegedly confirm the voter’s polling place.
Lyon County Clerk Tammy Vopat says the messages are not accurate, although Kansas Republican Party Chair Kelly Arnold says they may well come from a legitimate source — the Republican National Committee. If you have received this message and are concerned about the status of your advance vote, call the Lyon County Election Office at 341-3245.
Separately, advance voting continues at a brisk pace. Vopat says over 800 residents have cast ballots already. That includes last Saturday’s satellite voting event at Flinthills Mall but does not include mail ballot requests.
