The time of year where we honor the service and sacrifice of local veterans is quickly approaching, and Commercial Street is already adorned with the faces of those many brave men and women.
260 veterans banners have been raised in honor of the memories of area service men and women. The banners begin at the All Veteran’s Memorial located at 931 S. Commercial street and stretch north all the way to the Emporia State University campus.
Emporia Main Street Director Casey Woods says this is one of the most exciting times of the year.
Woods adds the project was born when two local community members approached them after seeing similar displays on military bases in other states.
The banners are displayed for the entirety of All Veterans Tribute activities in Emporia. They are also displayed for four successive years before they are retired.
