Another former Kansas governor has come out in support of Democrat Laura Kelly’s campaign.
In a statement Thursday, former Republican governor Mike Hayden endorsed Kelly. In a statement, Hayden said “After eight years of crisis, we cannot elect someone who wants to repeat the disasters of the past.” Hayden says he believes Kris Kobach, Kelly’s opponent in the race would do just that.
Following Hayden’s endorsement, Kelly has now been endorsed by every living former Kansas governor with the exception of Republican Sam Brownback, who has yet to endorse either candidate.
Kobach’s most notable endorsements have been from President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, the NRA and current governor Jeff Colyer, whom Kobach narrowly defeated in the August primary.
Advance voting begins in Lyon County Saturday at the Flinthills Mall from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. then essentially continues beginning Oct. 22. The general election is Nov. 6.
