Emporia Public Works crews are planning to make repairs to a water main in a well-traveled part of downtown Emporia next week.
As a result, there will be temporary lane closures on 6th Avenue between Commercial and Merchant Streets beginning at approximately 9 a.m. Tuesday and continuing through 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26. Emporia Public Works Director Frank Abart says they believe the source of the leak is on an old connection but says they won’t know exactly where the leak is until they do an excavation.
Abart says it’s likely the interior two lanes of traffic along 6th Ave. will be closed for some time during the excavation. People who normally travel in the downtown area should consider an alternate route to avoid delays and reduce congestion.
All work is subject to weather and other unanticipated delays.
