The Emporia City Commission took action on a handful of items Wednesday following a study session and action meeting.
A late addition to the agenda was a request for some tweaks to the design plan of the city’s downtown sanitary sewer system improvements. Commissioner Rob Gilligan says some deficiencies were found that needed to be rectified before the city solicits bids on the project.
BG Consultants is in charge of the $700,000 project.
Another project that opened for bids earlier in the day Wednesday was for a railroad spur along Peyton Street for expansion Bunge North America. The city, which owns the utilities where the project will occur, is taking on the initial cost as contractees with Middlecreek Corporation which is just over $274,000. Gilligan says Bunge has signed an agreement to reimburse the city that money.
In other business the city commission:
*Approved the transfer of property at 714 Cottonwood to the Habitat for Humanity organization for a future build of a single-family home.
*Approved a 5-year plan update to the city’s solid waste management plan.
*Appointed Josh Williams and Francis Springeman to the Board of Zoning Appeals.
The Emporia City Commission will meet again Oct. 24 in a study session with tentative visits from Sen. Jeff Longbine, 60th District Representative Mark Schreiber and 76th District Representative Eric Smith scheduled.
