The Friends of the Emporia Public Library’s fall book sale is doing quite well so far.
That’s the word from Library Director Robin Newell, who says the drive generated close to $6,000 over the weekend — more than the event has made as a whole the last couple years. She says “it’s like a beehive” inside the library with bag sales now underway, and she thanked the Friends group for its support of the library.
Bag sales continue through Thursday, with books at $5 a bag Wednesday and books at $2 a bag Thursday. The daily sale typically ends 30 minutes before the library closes, but Thursday the sale will end at noon.
Proceeds benefit a wide range of events and projects, including the recently-purchased Starlings that serve as word counters for young learners, summer reading prizes and the annual Kids Koncert series.
