Some programs and services at the Lee Beran Recreation Center will take an increase in fees starting next year.
That was the main topic of discussion during the Emporia Rec Commission’s monthly meeting Monday evening. Commissioners have been discussing the possible increases for months, which if approved would go into effect Jan. 1 2019. This will be the first time in over 18 years many of the programs and services fees have been increased.
The majority of increases will be minimal, with the racquetball courts, gymnasium, and natatorium seeing prices rise by as little as 50 cents and as much as a dollar. Rec Commission Program Supervisor Amanda Gutierrez says while the rise in price is relatively small, it will help make a difference for the center.
Commissioners approved the price changes by a 5-0 vote. For more information on the fee increases contact the Lee Beran Recreation Center.
Another change on the horizon is to the contracts between the Rec Commission and many of their program partners. For years the contracts provided an 80-20 split of proceeds from programs facilitated and staffed by the Rec Commission and run by outside partners or specialists.
Gutierrez says the contract adjustments, like the fee increases, will not be a drastic change but will benefit both parties evenly.
For more information on the fee increases contact the Lee Beran Recreation Center at 340-6300.
In other business Rec Center Director, Tom McEvoy discussed glucose packages being included in A.E.D. Boxes at the center. Adjusting fee deadlines for programs and plans for the upcoming 1A high school volleyball tournament.
Commissioners also received an update from Marketing Supervisor Jennifer Bennett who informed those in attendance the new registration software for the Rec Commission’s recently redesigned website, will be phased in throughout this week.
The Commission will meet Friday with its recommendation committee to discuss the ongoing renovation project at the Rec Center. That meeting will begin at 2 p.m. The Commission’s next monthly meeting is scheduled for Nov. 19 at 5:30 p.m.
