High school and middle school rodeo participants from five states came to Emporia this past weekend for the annual Lyon County Showdown rodeo.
Saturday’s conditions improved as the day progressed, but Sunday was a cloudy, wet and raw day. Still, close to 200 riders from Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas participated and hundreds of family and dedicated rodeo fans went to the Lyon County Fairgrounds to watch the action.
As has been the case for years, rodeo participants brought food to fill the Salvation Army food pantry and help to cap off KVOE’s annual Drive for Food. Among them was Jhett Vanderhamm from Ingalls.
Bryce Teut came to Emporia from Lincoln, Neb.
Several hundred items were donated. The full Showdown total should be announced by Wednesday. Last week’s drive generated almost 31,000 items for the food pantry.
