Last week’s flooding rainfall may not have had a major impact on the city’s stormwater drainage system, but it did cause some adjustments to some significant road and water line projects in Emporia.
City Engineer Jim Ubert says contract crews adjusted their work schedule to get Commercial Street between the Burlington Northern Santa Fe tracks and Kansas Avenue paved before the rains hit. Things got back to full speed on several projects to close out last week, but Ubert says there are several weather conditions that can put road construction on hold.
Paving will resume this week on Merchant Street from South Avenue north to 12th. Crews worked Saturday to pave Merchant from the railroad tracks to Sixth. Paving also continues on Merchant from 12th north to Interstate 35, with bridge work continuing on Industrial Road over Interstate 35.
The major water line project on Kansas Avenue to Simmons Pet Food paused during hte rain but has resumed. Work to install water mains under East Wilman and Rural streets from 15th to 18th is over.
