Braxton Marstall scored two rushing touchdowns and threw 2 touchdown passes to lead the Emporia State football team to a 41-23 win over Central Missouri Saturday.
Marstall scored on a 1 yard run to cap off a 13 play drive to give the Hornets a 7-0 lead, they would never trail. Marstall also scored on a 23 yard run to give the Hornets a 13-3 lead.
Landon Nault scored on a 61 yard run to give Emporia State a 20-10 lead.
Tyler Harris caught a 3 yard pass to put the Hornets in front 27-10. Central scored with 1 minute to play in the half to make it 27-17 at halftime. Neither team scored in the 3rd quarter. In the 4th quarter Braxton Marstall connected with Jordan Reed for a 34 yard scoring pass to cap off a 7 play 93 yard drive. Parker Bass would return a fumble 74 yard for a 41-17 lead.
The Hornet defense also came up with 2 interceptions, one by Logan Thompson and one by Cade Harelson. They also held Central to 3 of 6 on 4th down. Landon Nault finished with 114 rushing yards. Marstall completed 24 of 33 passes for 278 yards and no turnovers.
It was the type of game Emporia State Coach Garin Higgins had been waiting for.
With the win the Hornets improve to 4-3 for the season. They will host Missouri Western for Homecoming next Saturday.
