A portion of State Street in Emporia is closed until further notice.
Emporia Police Lt. Kevin Risley says the road is being closed at the at the railroad underpass. This affects State Street from 2nd Ave. to 4th Ave. Risley tells KVOE News it’s unclear whether it’s due to flooding or deterioration of the railroad over the bridge but noted there were some chunks of cement coming off the bridge. As a precaution, the underpass is being shut down until repairs can be made. There was some minor flooding occurring near the bridge Monday evening.
Emporia Police have notified BNSF. Additional details are pending on the cause of that deterioration.
