Rainfall did little to wash away the fun and games in Americus this weekend.
The Americus Making a Splash Block Party kicked off Saturday morning with a community breakfast at the Americus United Methodist Church. After filling their stomachs with biscuits and gravy residents made their way over to Harry and Lloyd’s Bar and Grill for a party on the patio which featured a $5 pulled pork lunch, patio games and several raffles.
Event organizer Michael Phillips explains what the event’s proceeds will benefit.
Phillips adds the block party is just the start of the fundraising process.
Some scheduled events had to be canceled due to the heavy rainfall including the parade and park activities. Despite the cancellations residents still enjoyed live music from Doc Hinck and Savannah Chestnut throughout the afternoon.
The canceled activities will be rescheduled for Americus’ Spring Fling event. Totals from the block party are still pending.
