A key donation was recently bestowed upon the Newman Regional Health Foundation to help support Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) education, the Swaddle Program and the Lyon County Community Baby Shower.
Gail Barrett, who has been active in the community spreading awareness about SIDS, presented a $10,000 check Aug. 29 to create the Wade Barrett Memorial Fund at Newman Regional Health Foundation. She says having this new fund creates more opportunities to work with the hospital even closer on education.
Gail and her husband Mike Barrett have done a lot in the Emporia area since their infant son Wade died a few years ago due to SIDS. Through the NRH Foundation, this money helps create a new avenue for the hospital to share information with new parents. Foundation Director Mike Perigo says this gives a nice structure for the future.
The Barrett Family is preparing for the most important fundraising activity of the year Oct. 13 at the Wagon Wheel Steakhouse in Emporia. Wade’s Ride will begin with a motorcycle ride that morning at 9 a.m. followed by lunch and fundraising auctions at 11 a.m. More information is available on the 9th Annual Wade’s ride event page on Facebook. There is also a separate Wade Barrett Memorial Fund through the Emporia Community Foundation.
