With flu season fastly approaching, Flint Hills Community Health Center gave residents a convenient way to stay healthy with their annual Drive-Thru Flu Shot Clinic Friday.
The clinic provided a more convenient option for individuals who may not have the time to sit and wait at the center to receive their vaccine. The process for the clinic is similar to any other visit, residents drive up and present their paperwork before pulling into a designated area and receiving their shot in a matter of minutes.
When it comes to administering the vaccines, FHCHC COO Amanda Dreasher says there are differences between children and adults.
After receiving your vaccine it is strongly adivised to maintain proper health precautions as Dreasher notes it takes roughly two weeks for the vaccine to take effect.
If you have contracted the flu, or are experiencing flu-like symptoms, you may still receive a vaccine, however, you must be without a fever for 24-48 hours. Flu symptoms include coughing, sore throat, nausea and fever.
For children under the age of nine and adults who could not attend Friday’s clinic, the health center accepts walk-ins for flu vaccinations 8 am to 5 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays and from 8 am to 7 pm on Wednesdays.
The Madison and Eureka locations will each host a drive-thru clinic on October 5th. Madison’s clinic will run from 10 am to 4 pm and Eureka’s will run from 9 am to 2 pm.
