A total of five teams helped the United Way secure donations during the annual Small Business Blitz Wednesday, bringing in $7,000 in a matter of just three hours.
United Way Executive Director Jami Reever says the Amazing Race-style event is a blast for the teams, which find the event both competitive and challenging.
The team to raise the most money was the pair of volunteers representing the Salvation Army who raised $1,965. Emporia Childcare’s team received donations from every business they visited Wednesday. Reever says this only elevates the United Way forward as it looks to reach this year’s fundraising goal of $555,000. And she says there is some extra incentive to businesses coming Monday courtesy KVOE and the United Way.
The campaign has officially hit the ground running now and will have its annual Wolf Creek golf tournament happening Friday at the Emporia Golf Course. Dine United events also will be held each Thursday in October, with the first one Oct. 4 at Do-B’s.
