Just weeks after it opened a new location in Emporia, Dunkin’ Donuts is dropping donuts – at least from its name.
The iconic coffee and donut chain has reportedly toyed with the idea for a while, to put an emphasis on coffee and other drinks. Tony Weisman, Dunkin’s chief marketing officer in a statement Tuesday said “by simplifying and modernizing our name, while still paying homage to our heritage, we have an opportunity to create an incredible new energy for Dunkin’.”
Coffee and sandwiches have become increasingly important to the chain, which reported that revenue was up for the second quarter thanks to sales of higher-margin iced coffee drinks and breakfast sandwiches, according to ABC News.
The name change won’t take effect until January.
