Students and faculty of Hamilton High School are resurrecting a former long-standing tradition for the community.
Wednesday night the school will be hosting a bonfire as part of Friday’s homecoming activities. The bonfire was a regular tradition of Hamilton students up to 12 years ago. Many current students have grown up listening about the tradition from parents and grandparents who attended the annual event.
One such student was Rayne Knight who had the original idea to bring the bonfire back.
As a smaller school, some programs often are not available to students alone, forcing the need to consolidate with surrounding schools for activities such as sports.
Hamilton faculty member Becki Goodman says the bonfire is something unique to the school and community and invites all residents to take part.
Several faculty members will be on hand including the volleyball and football coaches. The homecoming candidates will also be presented during the festivities.
The bonfire will take place Wednesday evening at 7:30 on the southwest portion of the school track.
